【Participants Wanted】Community-Based International Student Program “Let’s Explore KOKA City in Shiga!”

Dear International Students & Japanese Students Wanting to Connect with International Students,

Hello! This is the International Center of Ritsumeikan University at BKC campus.

We are hosting a community-based international student program organized by the Lake Biwa University Regional Consortium for students studying in Shiga. This is a valuable opportunity to deeply understand Koka City in Shiga and to communicate with local residents and community members.

1. Date & Meeting Place

Day1) November 16 (Saturday) 13:00–18:00 *Rain or shine
Day2) November 17 (Sunday) 08:45–18:15 *Rain or shine *The schedule is subject to change.

Meeting Time & Place:
Day1) November 16 (Saturday) 13:00 at Ritsumeikan University BKC Campus
Day2) November 17 (Sunday) 08:45 at JR Kusatsu Station East Exit

2. Program Purpose

The program aims to deepen the understanding of both historical and structural challenges facing Koka City and to enrich the significance of studying in Shiga for international students. By participating in community activities, we hope to foster further interaction between local residents and international students.

3. Program Details (Participation for both days is required)

November 16 (Saturday)
(1) Learning about Koka City (Lecture)
 ・ Understanding the past and present of Koka City, including current issues and diverse initiatives.
(2) Deepening Understanding of Collaboration between Local Governments and Universities (Lecture)
 ・ Discussion of the special zone project in the area of Kibu-kawa river station and Shigaraki ware.

November 17 (Sunday)
(3) Experiencing Koka City (Fieldwork & Interactive Activity)
 ・ On-site visits around Kibu-kawa river station, Shigaraki pottery studios, and community facilities.
(4) Discussing the Future of Koka City (Presentation & Discussion)
 ・ Exchange of ideas on the revitalization of Koka City. 

4. Number of Participants

Capacity: 30 participants (20 international students, 10 Japanese student supporters)

Japanese students will be expected to support international students (e.g., interpreting, etc.) during the two-day program. Those interested in interacting with and supporting international students are welcome to apply.

• Fee: Free (participation for both days is required.)
 * Lunch boxes (bento) will be provided on the second day, but the menu will be the same for all participants. Please note that we cannot accommodate individual dietary needs, such as halal.

• Application Deadline: November 3 (Sunday) 23:59
 *If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity, a selection will be made. The results of the selection process and program details will be informed.

6. Announcement of Results

The results will be announced via the email address provided in your application on November 5 (Tuesday).
